I've had lots of studying to do lately, so I haven't been able to paint much. I'll be finishing a painting and posting it soon though.
Meanwhile, please visit www.powerlineblog.com and scroll down the page to the entry entitled, "Memorial Day Podcast" to hear the radio interview for my book. It was broadcast Saturday on AM 1280, The Patriot in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Advance orders for my book, Notes of Joy and Sadness Letters and Paintings from Operation Iraqi Freedom, seem to be doing well.
The book was originally ranked by Amazon.com at somewhere over 800,000th place. As of today, it was ranked at just over 36,000th. That's nowhere near the NYT bestseller list, and I'm sure there are dozens of variables that factor into the ranking, among which advance orders may be a pretty insignificant one, but I still like the looks of 36,000 better than 800,000.

Here's my latest painting, entitled "Sunlight on Canyon Wall."

More paintings are on the way. In the mean time, why don't you visit Frontpage Magazine and read the interview they gave me about my book?

Siwa Oasis is located in western Egypt, on the Libyan frontier. I spent some time there in the fall of 1988, while riding a bicycle across Egypt. This painting isn't an exact representation of what I saw, just an attempt to capture the way the late afternoon light looked splashing across the mud brick walls, and how that bright, warm light emphasized the shadows.

I had about half an hour to paint at lunch today and this is the result. I still prefer the work I do in studio, but I'm becoming more comfortable working quickly in changing light conditions, not to mention while people are looking over my shoulder and talking to me.
You may have noticed that recent photos have had a yellow tone to them. I had computer problems and had to use my restore disk. Luckily all my data was saved, but I had to reinstall my Microsoft suite. I installed an updated version and unfortunately it didn't have the photo manipulation capability of my old one. I'm still trying to figure out the new one.

I've been a little distracted lately, what with taking our son camping and taking mid-term exams, but I've been working on this painting for several evenings and finally have it done. If it looks familiar, it's because I posted a smaller version a few days ago, which was a study for this, larger one. Larger, by the way, is roughly 25 X 12 inches.
